Scrappy Triangles: Foundation Paper Piecing with Confidence
September 9th

Love the look of scrappy quilts but never quite sure how to pull your fabric together?

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to choose fabrics that actually work together—even when they come from the deepest corners of your scrap bin.

Your instructor will share three practical tips to help you confidently select fabrics for your next scrap quilt, so your blocks look intentional (not accidental). Then, you’ll dive into the fun part—sewing!

You’ll learn how to make 6″ Scrappy Triangle quilt blocks using foundation paper piecing. Don’t worry if you’re new to the technique—this workshop is designed to walk you through the process step-by-step. From setting up your workspace to trimming your finished blocks, you’ll see exactly how it’s done and leave feeling confident to try it on your own.

Whether your scrap stash is color-coordinated or chaos-in-a-bin, you’ll love how simple and satisfying it is to turn leftovers into something beautiful!

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

September Workshop with Leila / Leila Gardunia

My goal is to share quilts I’ve made and what I’ve learned along the way with you, so you can have more fun quilting too!

I’m a biologist by training, a mom, and a quilter. I love planning, drafting, picking out fabric – all of it. It doesn’t always come easy, but that is what makes it interesting.

I’ve become that crazy quilt lady, and it all started with a children’s book…

I made my first quilt when I was about 10. I was inspired by the Little House on the Prairie books and made a hand pieced nine patch block. In my child’s mind,  I thought the “small stitches” described in the book meant “narrow seam allowances” so now my small quilt is literally coming apart at the seams.

I didn’t piece again until I was about 25. A friend convinced me to participate in a local quilt shop’s block of the month program. I thought it would be super lame and only went along to hang out with my friends. Boy, was I wrong! I was hooked.

WORKSHOP FAQ'S

Do I need to prepare anything or buy special materials in advance?

There will be a materials list posted prior to the workshop dates, but they are not required. You can bring your materials and give your hand at trying the technique, or you can watch the workshop and afterwards re-watch while exploring it yourself.

What if I can’t attend the live session?

No worries if you can’t make the live session—the recording will be available within 24 hours of the workshop so you can watch and learn at your convenience. Plus, you are able to grab your supplies and stop and start as you watch while trying out whatever is being taught.

Do I already need to know this technique?

No! This is what is great about Patchworkers Plus. We bring the guests and put on workshops allowing you to explore and try out new things, without the travel and extra teacher fees. Come participate live, watch the replay and give what’s taught a try on your own terms – surrounded by a community of support when you need it.

What else do I get with a PLUS membership?

SO MUCH. In addition to the ever-growing library of workshops available on-demand, we offer sewing days, a book club, show & tell evening, and more quilty cheer-leading supporting you than you’ll know what to do with!

I’m pretty shy and not comfortable being on camera or speaking up in groups.

It takes everyone a few minutes to get settled and used to sharing and being on camera. You are not alone in this hesitation. It is optional, but we do encourage you to try it. It really helps with building friendships and especially wonderful when it’s show and tell time as the inspiration from others projects and progress is a treat you don’t want to miss out on.

I’m not great with technology. What if I have trouble joining the workshop?

I completely understand that technology can be a bit daunting. That’s why I’ll provide clear, easy-to-follow instructions for joining the workshop. And if any issues come up, I’ll be here to help you out. Ensuring you have a smooth experience is my top priority.

This is whey I began the quilting community – so it’s flexible to YOUR schedule.

Many of our members have moved during their membership and nothing changes! They are still able to connect, share and some have even found that they are closer to other members and have met up in real life!

Other members have still popped in to attend our meetups and show & tells even though they were at a retreat or in a hotel.  We love that no matter where you are or what you’re doing, you are still able to participate.

Members may cancel their subscription at any time. You will still have access to your content until the end of the current billing cycle.

You’ll find instructions for setting up you zoom connection for our meetups as well as how to bookmark or save the site, save the patterns and more.

One of the benefits of joining the membership earlier rather than later is that you lock in the cost at which you join. As the pattern and technique library grows and the value grows, the cost of the membership may increase – but YOUR monthly cost will stay the same as long as your payments are in good standing and you have not cancelled.
